FAITH

COMMUNITIES

If you lead or participate in a faith community, you can get involved by joining BIO.

Our work is informed by the stories from individuals in our towns, our places of work and worship, and our families. These stories have given shape to shared concerns that run deep in the fabric of our Berkshire community, which we work to address with citizen action organizing and democratic economic development strategies. We hope you will join us in the work for justice in the Berkshires!

By joining Berkshire Interfaith Organizing, a faith community commits to:

  • Developing an Organizing Team of leaders to coordinate the congregation’s participation in BIO’s activities, including leadership development, one-to-one relationship building, and issue action campaigns;

  • Sending delegates to BIO’s Annual Convention, Executive Council, and Priority Issues Research Team meetings;

  • Helping to raise funds, including paying its fair share of dues.

Let's make it happen! Simply contact our Lead Organizer Wendy Krom at wendy@biorganizing.org or at (413) 464-1804 to talk more about what membership looks like.

You can download the full Faith Community membership leaflet here.

We can't wait to have you on board!

BIO COMMUNITY

LEADERS

BIO is an organization of organizations; we bring together faith groups across the county to amplify our voices and build our power. At the same time, however, we recognize that there are many residents of the Berkshires who share our goals and wish to participate in our work for social justice, but either do not belong to a faith group, or belong to a group which is not a BIO member. We believe in including as many people as possible in our work to improve our community, and so have created a member group known as the BIO Community Leaders, which anyone living in the Berkshires is eligible to join.

Members of the BIO Community Leaders (BCL) are eligible to participate in all of BIO’s organizing work, and the group shares the normal rights and responsibilities of a BIO member group. By joining the BCL, an individual commits to:

  • Participation in BIO’s activities, including leadership development, one-to-one relationship building, and issue action campaigns;

  • Paying individual member dues.

  • Participating in quarterly BCL membership meetings.

  • Helping to select delegates from the BCL to BIO’s Annual Convention and monthly Executive Council meeting.
